Jessie Phillips Andersen

Jessie Phillips Andersen designs everyday objects that explore what objects are, mean, and connect to our personal and social worlds.

Informed by her background in both art design and social theory, all her work is centered around what objects, materials, and forms mean to us personally and socially.

While past designs have been focused on ceramic tableware and household accessories, her upcoming work brings together ceramics with woodturning, fibers, and other media. This work is centered around breaking down the common siloing of different craft, art, and material traditions by domestic versus commercial spheres, as well as gender.

Her work has been shown at international design exhibitions such as the Designboom Mart at ICFF and IDS Vancouver; featured in media including the Today Show, HGTV Magazine, Food and Wine and Apartment Therapy; and she has executed a successful Kickstarter campaign.

Jessie holds a Master of Design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a B.A. in Sociology from Haverford College. She lives and works in Portland, OR with her husband, child, two cats, and Buttermilk the Greatest Pyrenees.
